"Aaron makes Jazz fun. His connection to his saxophone is something we could feel in the vibrations he was causing. Bringing in Carlos Homs was an intelligent touch adding depth and excitement. Nic Cacioppo Killed it on the drums and Nick Jozwiak reminded us why the upright bass is so powerful. I feel many things about these gentlemen being with us, none more so than honored" - Ryan O'Connor, CO-Founder, Stella Records.

About This Recording

Aaron Burnett is a saxophonist and composer whose music brings together deep jazz language, modern improvisation, and a strong sense of spiritual and emotional exploration. His playing is expressive, searching, and highly personal, moving easily between lyrical melody, harmonic complexity, and open-ended group conversation.

On this release, Burnett leads a focused ensemble featuring saxophone, keys, bass, and drums. The program includes original compositions alongside a classic jazz standard, giving the session both a contemporary voice and a clear connection to the broader tradition. The music has the feel of players listening closely to one another in real time: responsive, dynamic, and alive.

Burnett’s tone is central to the experience. His saxophone can feel warm and intimate one moment, urgent and exploratory the next. That range makes this recording especially well suited to a straight-to-tape reel-to-reel format. Captured live without digital tools, the session preserves the breath of the horn, the natural space around the instruments, and the subtle interaction among the musicians.

For analog listeners, this is the kind of performance that rewards attention. It is not simply a recording of notes, but a document of musicians creating in the moment, with the immediacy, texture, and presence that tape captures so well.

About Stella Records

Stella works at the edge of craft: microphone selection, placement, analog gain staging, tape formulation selection, deck calibration — all in service of a recording chain that has one objective:

Capture the source with the least mediation possible.

As reel-to-reel collectors — that is what we want.

This is the moment reel-to-reel becomes not just archival.
Not just historical.
Not just about “vintage content.”

This is reel-to-reel as a living studio medium again.
